Onika Claire Heffler was diagnosed with brain cancer just before Christmas. This little girl is the daughter of my best friend. Her Mother Juanita was my best friend through highschool and even lived with me and my family for about a year. Onika is now almost 7 months old and is a big fighter. She has undergone brain surgery and now she is going through chemo. Onika had her latest MRI done last week and the family found out that the tumor is not responding to the treatment. So they are now trying some new chemo to see if that will help. This is a young family who deserve all the happiness in the world. Please check out the website and send some positive thoughts and prayers to this family as they are going through something that nobody should ever indure.

Halifax Happenings

While reading the newspaper this morning i came across an article about some changes/renovations that are under consideration for Grand Parade. For me i guess it doesn't really matter as i rarely venture into downtown halifax, however for those that are down there on a regular basis, i just wonder how you see these changes affecting the downtown area. I can see some advantages and disadvantages. It will make downtown busier but it could also lead to more revenue for the area.

Here is the link to the article.

News

I was watching the news last night and became a little disturbed when they were discussing the issue of 9/11 trading cards. The cards contain pictures of those who died, those who survived, and pictures of memorial sites.

The publisher of the cards says that they are not trading cards but rather "tribute cards"also he says is not trying to cash in on them rather they are to help keep the memory alive of those who died and to honor those that still live. He plans on donating 8% of the profits to the families of those that gave their permission to use the photos. 8% split between the 100 families that gave permission doesn't seem like a big contribution. It also leaves 92% for him..If he was really doing this to honor them shouldn't more of the profit go to the families.
